Father's Day Special: Butler Auto Supplies

Marion Center Speedway continued racing into its 51st season under the continued operation and ownership of the Potts family Saturday night with a Father’s Day Special including Kids’ Bike Races at intermission.  Here are the results of the racing on the quarter-mile dirt track: The Lias Tire Super Late Models’ feature put former champion of the track in the Butler Auto Supplies Winner’s Circle, Doug Glessner.  Glessner started near the back in the eleventh position on the starting grid, but by the time the halfway flags were displayed, Glessner had taken over the lead from Joe Petyak.  Petyak led the first twelve laps of the 25-lap feature from starting on the outside pole until Glessner got his opportunity and passed Petyak to go on for the checkers.  Petyak finished second and pole sitter, Bernie Whiteford was third.  The Lias Tire Super Late Model feature results are as follows:  1) Doug Glessner, 2) Joe Petyak, 3) Bernie Whiteford, 4) Clate Copeman, 5) Tommy Beck, 6) Jayme Beck, 7) Tom Decker, Jr., 8) Gabe Shaffer, 9) John Oaks, 10) Josh Powell, 11) Robbie Scott, 12) Billy Eash –DNF-, 13) Shawn Claar –DNS-.  The Lias Tire Super Late Model heat races were won by Robbie Scott and Joe Petyak.  (click on date to read more)

Marion Center Speedway continued racing into its 51st season under the operation and ownership of the Potts family Saturday night with the running of the Pisano’s Personal Home Care Steel Block Limited Late Model Special.  All six divisions of racing were represented with the Limited Late Model Special paying $1000 to win.  Here are the results of the racing on the quarter-mile dirt track: George Dixon, Jr. from Hesston was presented with a $1000 check for winning the Pisano’s Personal Home Care Steel Block Limited Late Model Special that also gave him back-to-back trips to the Butler Auto Supplies Winner’s Circle.  Dixon won the big money race by starting on the pole and never giving up the lead to anyone during the 20 lap feature which also paid out double points for the division.  Robbie Black started on the outside pole and followed Dixon the entire race to take second place and Wendell Pinckney moved up from sixth to third for the feature.  The Pisano’s Personal Home Care Steel Block Limited Late Model final results are:  1) George Dixon, Jr., 2) Robbie Black, 3) Wendell Pinckney, 4) Scott Stein, 5) Joe Petyak, 6) Cheyenne Reed, 7) Andy Burns, 8) Rich Wicker, 9) Tom Decker III, 10) Kyle Knapp.  George Dixon, Jr. and Wendell Pinckney were the heat race winners. Marion Center Speedway opened its 51ST Season of Racing continuing the Potts family legacy of owning and operating the quarter-mile dirt track since its beginnings with David Potts.  This season the addition of Go-Kart Racing twice a month for practices and racing has spread the fun out for race fans to enjoy all weekend.  And Truck Pulls are also scheduled throughout the season so be sure to check the schedule for these and more added events.   In the season opening “Armed Forces Night” Special here’s what happened on the track: The Lias Tire Super Late Models’ feature was dominated by Alex Ferree.  Ferree started the feature on the outside pole position after winning his heat race and took control of the front spot at the drop of the first green flag. Some cautions in the race brought the pack of Super Late Models back together again, but every restart was the same result with Ferree out in front.  After 25 laps the checkered flags flew and the Butler Auto Supplies Winner’s Circle had Ferree for his honorary photo session.  After sorting through some lapped cars the rest of field fell into place with Doug Glessner finishing second and Gabe Shaffer going from pole position to third.  The final results of the Lias Tire Super Late Model Feature are:  1) Alex Ferree, 2) Doug Glessner, 3) Gabe Shaffer, 4) Ken Schaltenbrand, 5) Tommy Beck, 6) Billy Eash, 7) Jayme Beck, 8) Steve Scaife, 9) John Wayne Weaver, 10) Tom Decker, Jr., 11) Josh Powell.  Receiving DNF’s in order were: 12) Jeff Sweeney, 13) Bobby Rohrer, 14) Rod Phillips, 15) Brett Bingaman, 16) Levi Sikora, 17) Tom Shaffer.  The Lias Tire Super Late Model heat races were won by Alex Ferree and Jeff Sweeney. Marion Center Speedway would like to thank all who have expressed their sympathy of the passing of Dave Potts the "Father" of MCS.  Saturday night was filled with joy and sorrow as tributes were conducted in memory of Dave and stories were shared about his life.  The Speedway family of staff, drivers, fans and sponsors came together to support his daughters in the on going legacy of Dave Potts and Marion Center Speedway.  Dave loved his family and racing was also close to his heart.  After 46 years plus at the track Dave will be missed.  Here's Saturday's recap of the Father's Day Weekend: The Lias Tire Super Latemodels' feature was won by Matt Lux from Franklin.  Lux started 4th in a field of 15 cars that was led onto the track by pole sitter, Rick Davis.  Davis held the lead for the first 7 of the 25-lap feature then was overtaken by Lux.  The powerful Lux car on its way to the Integra Racing Shocks Winner's Circle.  The next car closest to Lux at the finish line was Billy Eash from Johnstown.  Eash started beside Lux and was able to follow Lux to the front of the pack.  Rod Phillips was also with them at the beginning and end of the race starting in 5th position and finishing in 3rd.  After Lux, Eash, and Phillips it was Dane Laraway next in line and then came Denton Boyer and Dave Blazavich.  Rick Davis fell back to 7th place just ahead of Sammy Stile, Wally Fox and Andrew Gordon for the top 10.  Rounding out the field were Bob Sheesley, Jim Boyer, Brian Force, Chad Helman, and Terry Rayko.  The Lias Tire Super Latemodel heat races were won by Andrew Gordon in a last lap steal from Blazavich and Sammy Stile.  Marion Center Speedway held its final races of the 49TH Season of Racing under the continued ownership and management of the Potts Family, Saturday night at the quarter-mile clay oval.  During the playing of the National Anthem, the Point Champions of each division present made a parade lap with the American Flag.  Then they stopped under the flag stand and were presented their Point Champion trophies.  The 2015 Point Champions are:  Lias Tire Super Late Models-Billy Eash, The R.D. Shaffer Well Services Steel Block Limited Late Models-Tom Shaffer, The Huey Brothers, Inc. Crate Late Models – Dave Blazavich, The W. G. Satterlee & Sons Street Stocks – Ray Hickok, Jr., The Willow Farm Campground Strictly Stocks – Nick Erskine, and The Butler Auto Supplies Front Wheel Drive 4/6 Cylinders – Robert Lydic.  The festivities also included a 30 lap special feature for the RFSLM (Really Fast Super Late Models) Series-Lias Tire Super Late Models, a 25 lap feature for the R. D. Shaffer Well Services Steel Block Limited Late Models with the Huey Brothers, Inc.
